Bloatware Alert 2010-09-05 Don't buy this unless you want a pile of icons added to your desktop, an irritating pop-up sidebar in your web browser, pop-ups that try to sell you more HP products, icons added to your tray, and most of all, an irritating Yahoo! Toolbar. Seriously, I wanted a printer, not any of this bloaty pointless software that I will never use. HP, when will you realise that most people do not want this nonsense.
Good value for money 2010-08-14 Had quite a bit of bother setting it up, until I realised my mistake that I simply hadn't pressed the 'on' button! The print quality is fine for my needs which is just general printing, at home. One problem I often have with it is, it won't print things. If it doesn't print something, try the following steps: 1) Go to Control Panel 2) Select System and Maintenance 3) Select Administrative Tools 4) Double-click on Services 5) In the list of services, scroll down until you find one called "Print Spooler" 6) Right-click on "Print Spooler" and select "Restart" 7) The "deleted" jobs will disappear and any queued jobs in your print queue will print Another thing I sometimes have to do, to get it to print, is hold down the power button. This seems to tell the printer that it should start printing. A final point is, you need to buy a cable seperately, which will link the printer to your computer. The cable only costs 92p though and has free P&P. HP USB Cable A-B 2 Metre C6518A
Bargin Printer 2010-08-06 I needed a smaller printer and after looking at the reviews on Amazon I decided to buy the HP D1660. It took 30 mins to install and I did not have to uninstall my security software (kaspersky), the print out is great. The only downside was having to buy a USB lead separately.
Room for improvement 2010-07-29 The software takes a very long time to load and is extremely cumbersome. The printer off button just flashes when you press it, so that the printer always starts with the computer, wasting ink as it initiates. Print quality and speed are good, but the printer sometimes freezes, particularly when printing multiple pages.
As expected 2010-07-20 If you don't want to print lots of photos, this printer is more than adequate for normal, domestic, everyday document printing. I bought it because I already have a good quality scanner/photocopier and plenty of my own photo editing software and practically never print photos, so don't need an all-in-one. I haven't tried it, but it has settings for printing out photos and higher quality docs. It comes with 2 small size cartridges. buy the 300XL replacements to save money. You can save more money by printing out most your documents in draft mode. It was very easy to install and took less than a couple of minutes, but that was because I did not install any of the rubbish that came on the CD. (I don't install software when I have no idea what it is or what it does. I suspect it was mostly bloatware that hogs your system resources.) Just plug it in and let Windows do the rest. Leave the CD in the box. (Running XP 3) It does exactly what I bought it to do.
